There is no single certification for every product made in China. The applicable requirements depend on intended use, construction, materials, users, claims and destination. Start with a product fact sheet, then ask a qualified compliance owner to determine the relevant rules and evidence. A photograph of a certificate alone does not establish that the goods you will sell are compliant.
Build a product and destination fact sheet
Record each model, intended use, age group, materials, critical components, power supply, wireless functions, brand, sales channel and destination market. List variations in color, plug, adapter, battery or packaging language. Similar-looking models may have different regulatory requirements. Identify the manufacturer, brand owner, importer and any local responsible party.
Identify applicable rules before asking for certificates
For each product and market, have a competent specialist check mandatory rules, relevant standards, labels, instructions, registrations and whether third-party assessment is required. In the EU, CE marking applies only to products covered by specific EU harmonisation rules; it is not a universal approval mark. More than one rule can apply to the same product. Check other markets against their own authorities and product categories.
Verify the exact scope of reports and certificates
Compare applicant and manufacturer names, model numbers and variants, product photos, critical parts, tests performed, standard edition, laboratory, issue date, searchable reference and outcome. Ask how the production version differs from the tested sample. If a document does not cover the current model or destination, mark the issue open instead of claiming compliance.
Allocate documentation and importer responsibilities
Before ordering, agree who will provide technical documentation, any applicable declaration of conformity, test reports, traceability markings, instructions, packaging labels and import documents. Set deadlines, languages and version controls. A contract with the factory does not automatically remove legal duties held by the importer or brand owner.
Recheck changes before shipment
After approving the sample and bill of materials, log any changes to power supply, materials, structure, software, labels or packaging. A qualified compliance owner should decide whether updated evidence or testing is needed. Compare production goods, model markings, instructions and document versions before release, and retain batch records.
Copyable review fields
Model | destination | intended use | critical features | applicable rule and owner | report reference and model scope | label/instruction version | importer responsibility | open issue | release date. Do not close blank fields by assumption.
