“Export packaging” is not a complete specification. The design needs to match vulnerable product areas, the transport method and receiving conditions, and should be confirmed with a real sample. A photo of the outer carton alone does not establish adequate protection.
Identify the areas needing protection
Mark fragile, protruding, moving, scratch-prone or moisture-sensitive areas. Ask the supplier to explain protection and restraint, and photograph the product before packing, after inserting protection and before sealing. When products share a carton, check collision and missing-accessory risks.
Record each layer from product to pallet
| Layer | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Individual product | Protective materials, accessory positions, instructions and labels |
| Inner box | Quantity, dimensions, restraint and unpacking sequence |
| Outer carton | Packing quantity, external dimensions, gross and net weight, carton number |
| Pallet or other consolidation | Carton count, securing method, overall dimensions and receiving restrictions |
State units and the source of every measurement and weight. For pallets, wood materials or special products, confirm applicable requirements separately with the carrier and relevant destination-market specialists. General packaging advice is not a compliance conclusion.
Use clear carton data for quotations
This is a fictional example only: 12 units per carton, external dimensions 45 × 35 × 28 cm, gross weight 6.5 kg and net weight 5.8 kg. Real projects need measurements and weights from the actual packaging, recorded separately by model. Update dimensions, weights and carton counts used for transport quotations whenever packaging changes.
Make a packed sample matching the planned delivery
Use the intended product, inserts, accessories and carton to check packing, unpacking, restraint, handling and receiving requirements. Agree methods, conditions and who performs any drop, stacking or other tests in advance; do not arbitrarily apply a fixed height or number of repetitions. Keep test records and damage locations, then recheck changes to the protection design.
Confirm labels and the final packaging version
- Check model, packing quantity, carton numbers and the shipping marks agreed by both parties.
- Ensure barcodes and text match the product, order and instructions.
- Specify who provides label artwork and who checks printing and placement.
- Keep final packaging photos, carton specifications and the confirmation date.
Confirm packaging separately from carrier, insurance and customs arrangements. FindBao does not currently provide warehousing or shipping; available services are manual sourcing, quotation requests and quote comparison.
Continue with pre-shipment checks, the shipping-from-China checklist and writing an RFQ.
