For a first order, the hardest problem is often not finding company names but keeping the buyer, team and suppliers on one version of the facts. This learning path has four decision gates: brief, shortlist, quote and commitment. Each gate produces a reviewable output; unanswered questions remain open.
Gate 1: turn the idea into a product brief
State intended use, target buyer, trial volume, destination market, required functions and negotiable appearance. An image communicates shape but cannot establish material, dimensions, strength or compliance. List unknowns rather than letting a supplier guess. The output is a versioned requirement sheet; use the RFQ template to organize the fields.
Gate 2: turn search results into a shortlist
Collect leads from images, product terms, processes or manufacturing clusters. For each lead, record the source, legal company name, product connection and open questions. Read how to find manufacturers, then use the supplier verification guide to distinguish identity, production capability and contracting party. The output is a small evidence-backed shortlist, not a large list of contacts.
Gate 3: get comparable quotes and samples
Send the same requirement version to each candidate. Ask for deviations, quantity tiers, MOQ, sample and tooling charges, packaging, lead time and quote validity. Label missing fields “excluded” or “pending,” never zero. If samples are needed, assign an identifier to each and log deviations from the brief. The RFQ guide and MOQ and pricing guide explain these individual tasks. The output is a comparable quote sheet and a sample issue log.
Gate 4: check independently before committing
Before paying for goods or authorizing production, confirm the contracting party, payee, approved sample, specification version, delivery terms, destination-market documentation and unresolved checks. Pause a sudden bank change and call a previously verified contact; see the pre-payment checks. Buyers should separately arrange providers for audits, inspections, purchasing or freight when needed. FindBao current services cover assisted sourcing and support with inquiries and quote comparison, subject to the agreed assignment.
What completion looks like
The team can show one current brief, an evidence-backed shortlist, a line-by-line quote comparison, sample records and an owner with a due date for every open issue. When a key decision lacks evidence, remain at that gate. This topic page sets the reading sequence; the linked guides carry the detailed methods.
